Full House Renovation
Our clients had raised their family in this house in Enfield, and wanted to re-imagine the house in a new light. With a successful media business, their time was increasingly split between homes in Spain and London. As a result they wanted this house to be something special to return home to. Our brief was to transform the house with a large new living space, master bedroom, art studio and swimming pool. Our clients loved the idea of the pool being connected to the house. An idea that energised the project was for the pool space to stretch out under the garden, accessed from a double height space in the extension.
Having met with a few carefully chosen architects to talk about our project, 2PM stood head and shoulders above the other applicants. Mathew and Peter took our vague ideas and produced exciting plans for a very bold project. Their carefully constructed application for planning permission overcame the limitations of the house being in a conservation area, the local council passing the plans at the first presentation and reporting back that it was the most exciting project that had ever come through their department! 2PM were a delight to work with. Their vision and enthusiasm were infectious as they worked ceaselessly to realise our ideas. Phil and Gabrielle
Design Ideas and Models
The house is in a Conservation Area in Enfield, so a bold and modern design was very ambitious. But we knew that a really great design could win the support of the Planners and the Conservation Officer. Our design completely removed the back of the house and extended it over all three floors. But the appearance of the front of the house was unchanged. This was most important to win planning approval from Enfield for the work.
We worked through design options with our clients and produced architectural models to make the design really clear. This was a great process and enjoyable for us and our clients alike. Our models also helped to explain the design to the planning officer. The case officer gave full planning permission and wrote that this was one of the most exciting architectural residential projects to be approved in Enfield for some time.
Our design for the 3 storey extension with basement swimming pool won planning permission from Enfield. So our clients were most happy that this had added lots of value to the house. But they also wondered if they should omit the basement and build a separate swimming pool building in garden. We worked on some further design ideas for a pool building with a roof that seems to float over a glazed facade. This mirrored the extension at the rear of the main house. Our clients fell in love with this idea, especially the views between the pool building and the house extension. We submitted the revised extension and pool building design to Enfield as a new planning application, and again won their support for our design and full planning permission for the work.
Three Storey Extension
On the ground floor level the extension is formed of two overlapping roof planes. One is solid, one glazed, with a full height wall of sliding glass opening on to the garden. Above on the first floor a new master bedroom suite, dressing room and ensuite stretch the full width of the house. On the top floor the roof has been extended with 2 new gable ends that are completely glazed and contain a new studio space for our client.
